the pianofest, a unique event in boston, is reinvented at the lily pad (after four years at the zeitgeist gallery). pianofest is a showcase of the creme-de-la-creme of musicians from boston and beyond, representing a diverse array of genres, and united by their love of the piano. these scores of musicians, playing everything from pop and folk to classical, jazz, and Latin, are graciously donating their time and chops for the benefit of the 7-foot Kawai piano that graces the lily pad (as well as the venue itself). the lilypad is one of only a handful of venues in boston that boasts a combination of a perfectly-tuned piano and excellent acoustics, the others being swank jazz bars or fancy concert halls. the festival begins on wednesday and culminates in a marathon weekend of performances. the nights leading up to the weekend is a new feature of this year's pianofest. The price of admission $15 for each day of the festival, and one can come and go as they please. Inman square is the home of many excellent restaurants such as East Coast grill, and S&S Restaurant , both of whom have Sunday brunches, Oleana, the Druid, Bukowski's, Punjabi Dhaba, Dali, Magnolia's, and Christina's Ice Cream. So planning a day or the whole weekend could easily be a weekend of great music and great food, without getting in a vehicle once you reach inman square. If you love piano music or just want to broaden your musical experiences, this is an amazing event that will surely change your perception of piano. This is a great opportunity for families, especially those that include young musicians of every persuasion, to listen together and hear a wide spectrum of styles and approaches. Come for the music, leave, get food at one of the excellent restaurants in wonderful Inman Square, and then come back for more!
