Jamie Balmer http://www.lily-pad.net/archives/2010/05/21/index.html#004812 gill 2010-05-21T19:00:00-05:00 Duo Orfeo http://www.lily-pad.net/archives/2010/05/21/index.html#004848 http://www.duoorfeo.com/

Duo Orfeo brings to life a world of sound that is intimate, charming, subtle and haunting. Embracing a repertoire of compositions from largely forgotten byways of western musical tradition both past
and present, and approaching this rare and diverse music through the medium of the classical guitar, Duo Orfeo creates performances andrecordings that composer David Macbride has described as "the
embodiment of grace and beauty."
Since beginning their collaboration in 2005, Joseph Ricker and Jamie Balmer have released two recordings and performed throughout New England and New York City. Their Lily Pad set will feature music of Mompou, Lhoyer, Bach, Couperin, and a few surprises.

Book release party for Somerville poet Julia Story's first book of poetry, Post Moxie (Sarabande Books) Reading by Julia Story and friends http://www.lily-pad.net/archives/2010/05/22/index.html#004847 gill 2010-05-22T19:00:00-05:00 Pearl and the Beard and Gem Club http://www.lily-pad.net/archives/2010/05/22/index.html#004885 Pearl and the Beard is three voices, one cello, one guitar, one glockenspiel, one melodica, several drums, one accordion, ninety-six teeth, and one soul.

Former strangers Jocelyn Mackenzie, Emily Hope Price, and Jeremy Styles were united in the great city of New York. Each had migrated there from a far corner of the nation with naught but food in their pockets and money in their bellies. Each had the same true love. Since then the three have nested, and their unique brand of brightly melodic songcraft continues to blossom of its own accord.

Pearl and the Beard loves you the way you've always been.

Pearl and the Beard create the kind of heartwarming music that makes the bitter winter months bearable. The soulful folk trio’s energetic output envelopes the listener with whimsical, uplifting joy. Without a wave of distortion, pristine voices are free to entwine with a hearty collage of organic instrumentation. The spirited vocal harmonies tantalize the senses with the playful interaction between male and female voices."

Composer/pianist François Bourassa http://www.lily-pad.net/archives/2010/06/16/index.html#004778 Composer/pianist François Bourassa, 2007 Oscar Peterson Prize recipient (given by the Montréal International Jazz Festival) leads one of Canada’s most active jazz ensembles: currently with André Leroux (saxes) Adrian Vedady (bass), and Philippe Melanson (drums). Their latest recording in a catalogue of critically-acclaimed CD’s, Rasstones (Effendi), won several Quebec awards. A previous recording (Live at the Top of the Senator) won Canada’s highest recording honor, the JUNO. Numerous tours have taken them all over not only to festivals and concerts in Europe, the US and Canada, but also Russia, India, China, Korea, Japan and Mexico, to prestigious events such as the North Sea, Cork, and Paris Jazzfests, plus JALC in NYC. FBQ have appeared onstage with many greats of jazz. Wrote Nate Chinen of the New York Times: ‘’A pianist and composer of high stature in his native Montreal, Mr. Bourassa favors avant-gardism of a liquid and often lyrical sort.”

ADDDDDDDDD: a new opera by thingNY http://www.lily-pad.net/archives/2010/06/19/index.html#004846 Written and performed by Isabel Castellvi, Andrew Livingston, Paul Pinto, Erin Rogers and Jeffrey Young

Focus. The composers of thingNY will tell you stories, sing you songs, scream in your face, try to sell you stuff and rant recklessly to themselves, filling your ears with sweet sounds of excess. This new experimental opera by NYC's freshest avant-garde band highlights the everyday excesses of our lives (workaholism, the thrill of consumption, the joys of gluttony, the elation of libation) and turns them into a suite of attention-deficient songs, monologues and infomercials.
