7:30 PM Contemporary Chamber Music - featuring works by Jim Scully
This concert will feature the considerable talents of Boston area musicians Rachel Arnold (cello) and Ashley Addington (flute) as well as New Jersey based guitarist Keith Calmes. Music from the 20th and 21st centuries will be featured with an emphasis on music composed by Jim Scully.
Scully, a California based composer, was awarded a grant by the American Composers Forum to record some of his recent works in Boston, and these works will be featured at this event. Arnold and Addington will present Duplicitous Encounter - a piece premiered at Lily Pad in January of 2010. Additionally, Calmes will perform the Sonata for Guitar - a piece premiered in California in February of 2010. Both works were composed by Scully, a professor in the California State University system, between October of 2009 and February of 2010.
In addition to the works by Scully, the program includes works by: Elliott Carter (Enchanted Preludes), Kaija Saariaho (Mirrors); Charles Turner (Eleven Love Songs; Tim Broege (2 Songs for Guitar); Frank Campo (Remembering - in Memory or Chet Baker); Vincent Persicheti (Parable for Guitar) and others...
