“Boston jazz singer Metcalf does all jazz vocal fans a favor by digging up the trenchant songs of unjustly overlooked lyricist Landesman and her current musical collaborator, Wallace. Sly, ironic, witty, hip and humorous, Landesman’s songs – little known beyond “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most” and “The Ballad of the Sad Young Men” – offer a trove of should-be standards that aren’t worn out. And Metcalf makes the most of these treasures with her horn-like alto and swinging attack.”

Shepley Metcalf and pianist/arranger Ron Roy offer up selections from their new CD Something Irresistible: Songs of Fran Landesman + Simon Wallace, along with some hot-off-the-press gems dug up from the Great American Songbook.

Last winter Shepley discovered that Landesman, who penned the 1955 jazz standard "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most," is living in London and still writing fantastic songs. Shepley and Ron are the first U.S. musicians to perform and record this new songbook.

Shepley and Ron have made music at Upstairs on the Square, Acton Jazz Cafe, The Fireplace, The Daily Catch and at Two Boots in Brooklyn, NY. In March, they were joined by Gene Roma/drums and Chris Rathbun/bass for a celebratory CD release show at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston.

"Expressive singer Metcalf....celebrates her fine new CD of these witty and engaging tunes..."
