8:00 PM Vocalist Shepley Metcalf and pianist Ron Roy
http://www.shepleymetcalf.com/
Great lyrics hold tremendous appeal to Shepley Metcalf. She's smitten by those tunes written from the 1920's to 50's, like "The Gentleman is a Dope" and "My Baby Just Cares For Me," that have witty, poignant and timeless lyrics. She loves interpreting the well-known standards, but also loves digging up songs that haven't had their due. Tonight Shepley and her musical partner Ron Roy - an extraordinary pianist - will offer up some tried-and-true favorites along with lesser-known jazz and blues gems they bet you've never heard (like "No Soap, No Hope Blues" and "You're Not the Only Oyster in the Stew") . Ron and Shepley have performed around town at Upstairs on the Square, Acton Jazz Cafe, and The Fireplace, and at venues in New York and New Hampshire. They look forward to performing in Lily Pad's intimate space, where the focus is on the music.
10:00 PM Daniel Rosenthal Quintet
Trumpeter, Daniel Rosenthal, is a member of the Either/Orchestra and has performed and/or recorded with Steve Lacy, Anthony Braxton, Joe Morris, Allan Chase, Robin Eubanks, Mahmoud Ahmed, Mulatu Atstatke, and many others. Tonight's performance will feature original compositions blending modern jazz, rock and folk influences. Featuring Rick Stone - alto sax, Kendall Eddy - bass, Austin McMahon - drums, Daniel Rosenthal - trumpet, and special guest, Wes Corbett on banjo.

7:30 PM Gabrielle (Riley) Agachiko
Gabrielle (Riley) Agachiko, returns to the Boston music scene after a decade in the western Massachusetts countryside. Gabrielle’s songs reflect the journey from her home in Kenya through an education in England, conservatory studies in New York, jazz gigs in Paris and dues-paying in the Boston rock world. Her lyrics are poetic, smart and thoughtful; her vocals can soar, soothe or sear, by turn, remaining always impassioned and straight from the heart.
Last year she was seen on stage at Sanders Theatre with Mulatu Astake and the Either Orchestra performing an original song by Mr. Astatke. In addition to doing a bit of studio work, she’s also recorded with Ken and RSE on their release “Forked Tongue” and Dennis Brennan’s latest release “Engagement”. The project “Agachiko” was born from a desire to stretch vocally, and to embrace those songs that really speak of want and need, pain and pleasure, and the ridiculous desire that drives us to each other and away from each other. Agachiko is exploring the music of Nina Simone, Buddy Johnson, Maltby/Shire, Steven Schwartz and Chuck Mangione.
Agachiko is: Gabrielle Agachiko - Vocals, (Buck Moon, The Atom Said), Ken Field - Flute (Revolutionary Snake Ensemble - RSE, Birdsongs of the Messasoic), Ara Sarkissian - Piano (Musaner), Chris Forkey - Bass (Le Prestige, Lars Vegas), Phil Neighbors - Drums, (RSE, VQ Vibe Quartet)
We are joined by our friends Russ Gershon - Sax (Either/Orchestra), Scott Getchell - trumpet/flugelhorn (Le Prestige, Lars Vagas), and Joey Pesce - Guitar (ex- Til Tuesday, My Hip)

7pm The Chiara String Quartet Beethoven in Bars
Playing "Chamber Music in Any Chamber," the Chiara Quartet (Rebecca Fischer, Julie Yoon violin; Jonah Sirota, viola; Gregory Beaver, cello) reaches from the concert hall into clubs, bars and galleries, expanding the places to hear live classical music while returning chamber music to its roots in intimate spaces. Their style is best described as a nonstop journey to the edge of expressive possibility: "luminous," "searing," (New York Times) "soulful," "biting," and possessing a "potent collective force" (Strings Magazine)
8:15pm Landon Knoblock and singer Katie Bull The group features singer Katie Bull, pianist Landon Knoblock,

10:30 trio with Pandelis Karayorgis joining Dave Rempis and Frank Rosaly
No Gill at this Gillypad. My group will be here December 13th and then not again until January 10th.
"The Chiara String Quartet . . . grew up from the grass roots and represents a fresh voice for one of the world’s great musical traditions. This award-winning group of musicians all in their late 20s-blends new and traditional repertoire and old-fashioned stage appeal to win followers in a young generation largely untutored in the ways of European art music." -- The Journal Star
"Achieving an unforced power through purity of tone and deft articulations seems to be as natural as breathing or opening a book to this young ensemble. Other musicians would kill for such shapely phrasing, the ends of which are nothing short of exquisite." -- National Public Radio
"Each young artist marries a nimble technique to eager-to-please intensity and unhackneyed joy. -- The Washington Post
"The Chiara Quartet gave these works luminous performances..." -- New York Times
"..Katie Bull gets it right...'it' being something wholly undefined and unconventional.
Suzanne Vorge - All About Jazz (NY) Vox News Sept. 07
"Jazz vocalist Katie Bull just never lets you down with her insightful CD projects...She & the groups
she puts together seem supreme......feelings range from positive tension, relaxation, expectancy, &
fulfillment... ...fine treatment and vocalise...intimate interaction of folks & forces... ...a pleasurable
musical journey..."
George W. Carroll/The Musicians' Ombudsman
“[Landon Knoblock’s] touch, both at the keyboard and in his sense of structure, is graceful and
easy but it takes real work to achieve this kind of mastery. This is yet another example of the
continuing marvels of the piano trio at its finest.”
Donald Elfman, All About Jazz
KATIE BULL is a jazz vocalist and multi-media writer/performer living in New York City since birth.
LOVE SPOOK is Bull’s second CD to date. Her premiere CD Conversations with the Jokers (with
Michael Jefry Stevens, Lou Grassi, Joe Fonda) was released in March 2003 and received excellent
critical notices. CONVERSATIONS was on 12 Top Ten CMJ Radio charts culminating in an
invitation to sing at Jazzweek’s kick-off to the Rochester International Jazz Festival, at the
Montage.
She has appeared with numerous musicians including pianists Michael Jefry Stevens, Frank
Kimbrough, and Joshua Wolf; percussionists Lou Grassi, Matt Wilson, Harvey Sorgen, George
Schuller, and Jon Wikan; and bass players Joe Fonda, Martin Wind, and Cameron Brown.
She has sung with her divine mentors—jazz vocalist/composer Jay Clayton, and Jay Clayton’s
Voices & and jazz singer Sheila Jordan. Most recently Katie performed with Judi Silvano in her
accapella jazz-movement ensemble “Voices Together. Other musicians Katie has worked with
include pianist and composer Kirk Nurock in his Natural Sound; and composer Julius Eastman.
Her next CD, The Bull-Fonda Duo: Cup of Joe, No Bull was released in March '05 to stunning
critical response and features Joe Fonda on bass; recorded and engineered by David Baker. Her
albums are independently produced on the Corn Hill Indie label, distributed by North Country
Distributors, and can be purchased on cdbaby.com, and in selected stores.

Landon Knoblock is a creative pianist, an ambitious composer, and an adventurous improviser.
Recognized as “a superb pianist” by Ed Blanco of ejazznews.com, his music is passionate and
spontaneous. Landon Knoblock’s trio performs original modern and experimental jazz. His live
performances embody a quality of unpredictability and exploration. The New York Times states
that “Landon Knoblock . . . has quietly been making waves for his reflective and lyrical style.” His
second trio album, “The Heartbeat, The Breath”, has recently been released on CAMjazz, to critical
acclaim. Landon Knoblock’s music is original and organic, and draws the listener into a new realm
of connection and experience with art.
Originally from Miami, Landon Knoblock is currently based in Brooklyn, New York. He regularly
performs in New York’s creative music venues, such as the Cornelia St. Cafe, Barbes, and the 55
Bar. His trio has also performed at the Boston Music Festival, Chris’ Jazz Café in Philadelphia,
Twins Jazz in Washington DC, and the Arturo Sandoval Jazz Club in Miami. Internationally, the
Landon Knoblock Trio has performed at the Young Jazz in Town Festival and the Art Blakey Jazz
Club in Italy. Other notable performances include backing the acclaimed vocalist Katie Bull,
performing with Matt Wilson, and opening for the virtuosic Italian pianist Antonello Salis.
Rempis first earned widespread notice as a member of the Chicago music scene's quintessential Vandermark 5, but has since established himself as a leader in his own right at the helm of groups such as The Engines, Triage, the Dave Rempis Quartet and The Rempis Percussion Quartet. AllAboutJazz.com interviewer Paul Olson recently wrote, "Rempis embodies all of the best qualities of the Chicago improvisational music scene: he's a gifted but disciplined player who knows his instruments inside and out; he's a fearless, imaginative improviser; and he uncomplainingly works his ass off." In addition to his extensive work as a leader and active sideman, which led DownBeat to call him one of its Talents Deserving Wider Recognition in 2006, Rempis is also a founding member of the Chicago presenters' collective Umbrella Music and the curator of a weekly concert series at the not-for-profit performance space, Elastic.
Dave Rempis has emerged, over the past few years, as one of the most active young players on Chicago's improvised music scene. His work with the Vandermark Five has been noted in the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Reader, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and Down Beat, as well as the Boston Globe, in which noted jazz critic Bob Blumenthal referred to him as the band's “primary firebreather.” It has also given him the opportunity to perform extensively in clubs, concert halls, and festivals throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. His own work, most intensively with Triage (with Jason Ajemian and Tim Daisy) and The Rempis Percussion Quartet (with Anton Hatwich, Tim Daisy and Frank Rosaly), has been called “ever more impressive” by Lloyd Sachs of the Sun-Times, and pushes him in directions which his work as a sideman does not approach. In addition to these two groups, Rempis plays regularly with The Territory Band, The Crisis Ensemble, The Chicago Improvisers Group, and The Thread Quintet, and has worked with Paul Lytton, Axel Dörner, Hamid Drake, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Michael Zerang, Jim Baker, Kevin Drumm, Paal Nilsson-Love, Chris Jonas, Tony Buck, and Joe Morris.
Since April 2002, Rempis has curated a weekly concert series of improvised music at 3030, a performance space situated in a former church in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago. With over 100 concerts and two annual festivals, the series has become an essential part of the city's improvised music scene.

7:30 PM Amy Cervini
Returning to Boston for the first time after graduating from NEC, vocalist Amy Cervini is celebrating the release of Lovefool her enchanting new album. On an eclectic mix of songs, from Depeche Mode to Fred Hersch, Amy’s distinctive delivery “neatly straddles the line between confessional balladeering and breezy swing” (Time Out New York). Lovefool is a major step forward for a young singer who comes on “strong, but never strident. She presents songs with enough heart to convince a listener of her sincerity and enough musical talent to make it worth listening.” (Bob Karlovits, Pittsburgh Tribune–Review)

My album "Green" on iTunes
Darlingside is a string-rock quintet recently settled in Northampton, MA. The band formed at Williams College, where they released their first studio EP and shared the stage with such acts as Guster, The Format and Oak and Gorski (formerly known as The Ken Oak Band). Now in its third incarnation, Darlingside's musical influences range from Radiohead to Loudon Wainwright, Mozart to Earl Scruggs. Elegantly crafted cello-violin duets, soaring harmonies, catchy hooks and compelling beats are all part of Darlingside's evolving sound. After spending their first few months as a band writing tunes holed up in their house, these five are amped to begin touring Western MA and New England.

The second-ever concert of a group that has members who are descended from nomads who traveled in an annual route in the Midwest in the 1800s. Going by the Indiana towns of Mecca and Morocco, passing the Illinois village of Mahomet, the 'Tribe of Ishmael' was known for its music and dancing. An Ishmaelite girl was the real-life model for "Little Orphan Annie." The 20th century destruction of that tribe is detailed in a new book, "Inventing America's 'Worst' Family." Now, with a song-cycle that honors their forbears, the ishmaeLites have started a concert campaign to return to Indiana and the nomadic life of their ancestors. Their new CD, "Comin' Home to Indiana," is now available. Come join the caravan! For more information, write to theishmaelites@gmail.com
