12/04 Friday

7:30 PM Gabrielle (Riley) Agachiko

Gabrielle (Riley) Agachiko, returns to the Boston music scene after a decade in the western Massachusetts countryside. Gabrielle’s songs reflect the journey from her home in Kenya through an education in England, conservatory studies in New York, jazz gigs in Paris and dues-paying in the Boston rock world. Her lyrics are poetic, smart and thoughtful; her vocals can soar, soothe or sear, by turn, remaining always impassioned and straight from the heart.

Last year she was seen on stage at Sanders Theatre with Mulatu Astake and the Either Orchestra performing an original song by Mr. Astatke. In addition to doing a bit of studio work, she’s also recorded with Ken and RSE on their release “Forked Tongue” and Dennis Brennan’s latest release “Engagement”. The project “Agachiko” was born from a desire to stretch vocally, and to embrace those songs that really speak of want and need, pain and pleasure, and the ridiculous desire that drives us to each other and away from each other. Agachiko is exploring the music of Nina Simone, Buddy Johnson, Maltby/Shire, Steven Schwartz and Chuck Mangione.

Agachiko is: Gabrielle Agachiko - Vocals, (Buck Moon, The Atom Said), Ken Field - Flute (Revolutionary Snake Ensemble - RSE, Birdsongs of the Messasoic), Ara Sarkissian - Piano (Musaner), Chris Forkey - Bass (Le Prestige, Lars Vegas), Phil Neighbors - Drums, (RSE, VQ Vibe Quartet)
