12/03 Thursday

8:00 PM Vocalist Shepley Metcalf and pianist Ron Roy

Great lyrics hold tremendous appeal to Shepley Metcalf. She's smitten by those tunes written from the 1920's to 50's, like "The Gentleman is a Dope" and "My Baby Just Cares For Me," that have witty, poignant and timeless lyrics. She loves interpreting the well-known standards, but also loves digging up songs that haven't had their due. Tonight Shepley and her musical partner Ron Roy - an extraordinary pianist - will offer up some tried-and-true favorites along with lesser-known jazz and blues gems they bet you've never heard (like "No Soap, No Hope Blues" and "You're Not the Only Oyster in the Stew") . Ron and Shepley have performed around town at Upstairs on the Square, Acton Jazz Cafe, and The Fireplace, and at venues in New York and New Hampshire. They look forward to performing in Lily Pad's intimate space, where the focus is on the music.

10:00 PM Daniel Rosenthal Quintet

Trumpeter, Daniel Rosenthal, is a member of the Either/Orchestra and has performed and/or recorded with Steve Lacy, Anthony Braxton, Joe Morris, Allan Chase, Robin Eubanks, Mahmoud Ahmed, Mulatu Atstatke, and many others. Tonight's performance will feature original compositions blending modern jazz, rock and folk influences. Featuring Rick Stone - alto sax, Kendall Eddy - bass, Austin McMahon - drums, Daniel Rosenthal - trumpet, and special guest, Wes Corbett on banjo.
