7pm Pree

Pree, led by May Tabol of Le Loup, emerged onto the Washington, DC music scene with a string of compelling and intimate shows during the summer of 2008. Pree's musical prowess evokes seductive and shadowy moods that call to mind Regina Spektor's imaginative narratives as well as Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock's rhythmic vocal stylings-- mixing haunting folk elements, unmistakable vocals, and a remarkable command of words to elicit a fare as delicate as it is powerful.

9:30pm Allan Chase

Duo, trio and quartet improvisations by
Allan Chase-saxophones
Jim Hobbs-saxophones
Charlie Kohlhase-saxophones
Luther Gray-drums

Alto/soprano saxophonist Allan Chase has appeared on twenty jazz recordings, including six with Your Neighborhood Saxophone Quartet, and a recent release with Prima Materia "Peace on Earth Music of John Coltrane," with Coltrane's last drummer, Rashied Ali. Now Chase's first date as a leader has taken jazz critics by storm.
Chase, who wrote his master's thesis on the music of Sun Ra, has unearthed a brilliant selection of interesting material, here ranging from obscure Bud Powell numbers (Comin' Up, Borderick), unexpected standards (Poinciana, East of the Sun, Of Thee I Sing, How Little We Know, Close Your Eyes) and the otherwise unknown, Sun Ra-penned title tune.

"To the great wide jazz world, the name of drummer Steve Langone may be a new one, in which case the combustible music on this disc will be a revelation.
For those who have been listening in the Boston area for the past decade, the results will not be so surprising.
Langone is the kind of muscian whose talent is noticed when heard in any of the numerous ensembles with which he has performed, and whose range is just as obvious once you notice that he is one of the most active drummers in a variety of contexts. This is his debut as a leader, and it both summarizes the skills that have made him so successful and prophesizes an even brighter future."

Paul Medley/ Oxford Times January 2008
"[...] Ehwalds tenorplaying has the raw dissonant energy and wide-ranging
phrasing of Brecker moving towards Ayler [...]"

Olaf Weiden / Kölner Rundschau:
„ […] Most exciting soloist is Peter Ehwald with an amazing tone and a
broad stylistic variety […].“

Sebastian Scotney, LondonJazz, 31.01.09
Ehwald has a prodigious saxophone technique and a fine ear, particularly in
his frequent excursions into altissimo[...] his most natural voice seemed to
me to emerge in the more thoughtful and expressive moments.

Gabriel Alegria, Artistic Director of Jazz Peru International, Lima, June 2008
„Peter Ehwald is clearly a catalyst for this band, bringing together its
members around an athletic yet decidedly expressive sound. „Dunkel“ is
just one example of Ehwald s warmth as a composer and an
instrumentalist. His importance to this ensemble s surprising cohesion is
evident.“

7:00 PM "2012: Science or Superstition" Film Screening.

If you've haven't seen the film, "2012:Science or Superstition," The Emergence Project will be hosting a special showing at the Lily Pad in Cambridge MA on August 20. This documentary, produced by Gary Baddeley and co-producer Ralph Bernardo involved a series of interviews with many 2012 experts including Daniel Pinchbeck and John Major Jenkins, both of whom were speakers at our recent Boston conference. The goal in making the film was to give viewers a balanced perspective on 2012 themes. We'll also be discussing the implications of the film and serving light refreshments afterward.

7:00 PM Lee Moretti

"Blending piano-driven pop with classic guitar-driven rock, Lee Moretti brings a new force to the stage of rock songwriting. Based out of Providence, Rhode Island, and having toured the nation, Lee sets her scenery with delicacy, her songs reflections on love, loss, and the powers of fate, change and choice. With a powerful band of players behind her, Lee channels such influences as Tori Amos, Jeff Buckley, Alanis Morissette, Joni Mitchell, Aimee Mann, Jimi Hendrix, and more.

Joining her in this night of musical mayhem are the talented folk/rock, jazz, and indie stylings of Ali Rapetti (Bedside Companion), and Elana Brody."
