04/11 Saturday
3:00 PM Jessye and Elan Mehler piano and drawings
7:00 PM Chillgroove
Three guys walk into a studio (stop me if you've heard this one). Tim Casey, Hayim Kobi and Kerry Maxwell set up a ton of equipment both cutting edge and ancient, tune up, hit record, and then improvise for hours.
Later they edit the results and come up with a near-perfect pop album, "Chillgroove" (LBCD58). The CD is universally hailed,
Tim (guitar, keys, vocals) is a pop/ambient music freak (think Beatles meet Brian Eno). Hayim (keys, drumming) was born and raised in the mideast and has a deep love of Arabian beats (and a closet full of rare instruments to boot) as well as the latest software synths. Kerry (guitar) is from Venus - he owns more music than you've ever heard, he builds his own guitar stompboxes, and his influences aren't even necessarily from the world of music.
They'll be joined by newer players Noam Sender (improvised vocals, percussion, ney, and zurna) and Glenn Williams (bass, keys).
Listen to their stuff at myspace.com/chillgrooveboston or at lowbudgetrecords.com.
If you like Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, David Bowie and Brian Eno or all those old Nonesuch and Smithsonian LPs of world music, or if you just feel like dancing, you'll like this show.
