12/23 Tuesday
5:40 PM Kripalu Yoga
Kripalu Yoga uses classic asanas (poses), pranayama (breathwork), development of a quiet mind, and the practice of relaxation. What defines Kripalu Yoga is its emphasis: following the flow of prana (life-force energy), practicing compassionate self-acceptance, developing witness consciousness (observing the activity of the mind without judgment), and taking what is learned "off the mat" and into daily life.
7:15 PM Andrei Matorin
The Boston Globe calls Brazilian-born Andrei Matorin an "emerging jazz violinist" and featured him in their Critic’s Picks column twice in 2008 next to the likes of jazz greats such as Bill Charlap, Jim Hobbs, and John Patitucci. As a composer, Andrei’s music seamlessly blends the harmonic and rhythmic intensity of jazz with the emotion and sensitivity of classical music while alluding to the soaring melodies of his native Brazil. As a student at Berklee College of Music, he has been honored with Berklee's Achievement Award on two separate occasions.
Andrei Matorin is also an alumnus of Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead 2008 Program at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, an exclusive program that "identifies outstanding, emerging jazz artists in their mid-teens and twenties" from an international pool of applicants. Look out for his debut album available February 2009.
