11:00 AM Kripalu Yoga

Kripalu Yoga uses classic asanas (poses), pranayama (breathwork), development of a quiet mind, and the practice of relaxation. What defines Kripalu Yoga is its emphasis: following the flow of prana (life-force energy), practicing compassionate self-acceptance, developing witness consciousness (observing the activity of the mind without judgment), and taking what is learned "off the mat" and into daily life.

A week before recording his first album, Colombian pianist and composer Juan Andrés Ospina will be presenting a set of original compositions with an incredible band featuring musicians from all over the world. His music tastefully blends Colombian traditional rhythms with a more contemporary Jazz idiom, creating a unique sound that is slowly starting to be recognized by the most important musicians in his field.

Juan started singing and playing the piano at an early age. After two years of studying music at the Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá, Colombia), moved to Barcelona (Spain) to continue his jazz and classical studies. In Barcelona he performed at some of the most well known jazz clubs in Barcelona during these years, and attended master classes with musicians such as Chano Dominguez, Chick Corea, Perico Sambeat, Albert Bover and John Taylor among many others. He studied jazz studies at the Taller de Musics and classical music at the Angel Soler piano school. In May 2004 he was selected by the Taller de Musics to represent the school at the 14th IASJ Annual Meeting, held in Freiburg (Germany). He went back to Bogotá, where he taught at two Universities for one year, and frequently performed with some of the best jazz musicians in Colombia. Taking advantage of a Scholarship from Berklee College Of Music, he traveled to Boston in the Fall 2005, where he studied with musicians such as Danilo Pérez, Ed Tomassi, Greg Hopkins, Frank Carlberg, and Dave Samuels among many others. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in Fall 2007, and since then he has been frequently composing for different venues and playing in the Boston and New York Area.
