Jane Chakravarthy
Visual artist, Contemporary poet.

Jane primarily uses abstract imagery, metaphorical tones and irony to give depth to offer different levels on the way her work is perceived. " I rarely have a preconceived notion of what I will write or paint, my creativity comes from my life or vicariously from other people. I focus my energy to create images or scenes which guide me to purge and create a tangible expression; something I feel. I strive for my work to have a personal message, even if my point is not closed and easily defined. I am happy if my work connects to others, offers them guidance, hope, peace or just a sense acknowledgment on some level. My expression, creating my art is spiritual catharsis for me, I strive to let free my woes, to celebrate my one-ness and embrace our collective consciousness."

Jane has recently returned to Somerville after living in India for three and a half years; there she published her first book of poetry and artwork, Love, its Wrath and others, a collection of poetry, prose and artwork, and had several art shows, one notably at Bangalore's Chitrakala Parishat art institute.
Jane's poetry and or art has been published in various publications both here and in India, she is included in the Bagel Bards anthology 3, and upcoming issues of Luciole Press, Divine Revolution and The Ivory Tower

7:00 PM Qwertysaur, Junta, and Special Fredd

Junta is:

Richard McGuire – vox, alto saxophone

Vinay Bhatt – trumpet, sitar, trombone, euphonium, keys

Justin Mayfield – guitar

Dan Ehramjian - bass

Brandon Williams – drums

Forming from 5 friends frustrated with the local hardcore/punk/emo scene, Junta began their days trying to cover as much ground in musical categories as possible. They began playing in the glory days of high school and have since then performed as often as possible on breaks from college.

With a sound that could always be surprising, they were inspired by the idea that music does not need to be consistent, interrupting a flowing pop song with metal can be funny, and humor is acceptable in serious music. They have been compared to artists such as Mr. Bungle, Frank Zappa, and Otis Redding, and always look to expand on what artists they cite.

Visit them at www.myspace.com/juntajams to hear for yourself.

Qwertysaur is:

Justin Mayfield – guitar

Peter Moffett – drums

Qwertysaur works by the idea that anything that pops into their heads must be captured immediately and articulated, and then built upon. Complexities and technical structures are added afterwards and eventually their headaches become performable songs. Working with only two instruments is the game because it has unique drawbacks but even more advantages. It causes all ideas to be confined to two parts, yet the possibilities are endless, especially with two minds that consistently are trying to push each other beyond themselves.
