05/25 Sunday
3:00 PM Kirsten Swanson
8:00 PM Loop 2.4.3.
NPR's 'Fresh Air' program described Loop 2.4.3 as percussionists who
"reinvent percussion from the bones out, so that drums and other
beat-makers surprise you, throw you off base and draw you into a
vortex of pulses." All About Jazz adds, "this music is meant to be
heard live." The duo employs a wide range of percussion instruments,
including multiple drums, cymbals, marimba, acoustic/electric steel
drum, Chinese opera gongs, prayer bowls, crotales, and sleigh bells.
The haunting "Urban Mantra" goes further by adding live-triggered
samples of voices and analog/digital noise and looping.
Loop 2.4.3 is on tour in support of their highly acclaimed debut
album, "Batterie", which has been called "...a really focused and
thrilling percussive ride that has your attention in the palm of its
hand for every second of it…an unqualified treat from start to finish,
with plenty here to love for fans of The Boredoms and Liars (maybe
Lightning Bolt or Battles as well)." (New-Noise.net). Time Out –
Chicago called the album "Mesmerizing. More freewheeling than
academic, the group mingles taut compositions with a stunning
improvisational sense, weaving pulsing counterpoints on Reichian
marimbas and clattering chimes." See/hear more at www.loop243.com
