3play+ returns to the Lily Pad with its unique brand of space-jazz, where freedom and interplay rule.

3play+ began as a weekly jam session and brings that relaxed, spontaneous energy to live performance. The band “demonstrates a breadth of vision and diversity” where “the stylistic territory ranges from free-improv space jam to reggae to straight-ahead swing to even eighth-note rock to jazz waltz” and even “includes a beautiful and offbeat cover of Dylan's "The Times They Are A’Changin'."

3play+ trumpeter Phil Grenadier lays his “luminous free-flowing constructs” over the “ferocious, metronomic intensity” of Lello Molinari’s bass lines. Pianist Josh Rosen “evokes a refreshingly relaxed openness…yet burns with the best.” In this the case, the best is virtuoso drummer Marcello Pellitteri, a "wonderful musician” as Gary Burton put it, “one of the most talented to come along in a long time".

Please join 3play+ for an evening of free improvisation, original compositions, deconstructed standards and the occasional cover tune.

Ponies In The Surf
Casey Dienel
Sam Rosen

Casey Dienel just moved to Brooklyn from Boston and
likes the color of persimmons. Her songs are about pet
peeves, like when big fish eat the little fish, and
reference her culinary obsessions with coffee, Cracker
Jack, whiskey, and the miracle known as the Baked
Alaska (warm exterior, frozen interior). She is
currently touring to support her debut release,
Wind-Up Canary.
