Toby Driver-
Best known as the frontman, guitarist and composer for progressive/avant metal band Maudlin of the Well and their new incarnation Kayo Dot, Toby Driver has consistently proven himself to be one of the most unique songwriters in modern music. His debut solo album In the L..L..Library Loft was created as a means of expressing his more out there ideas which he feels wouldn't have been compatible with Kayo Dot. Most of his bandmates appear as guests on the album, which focuses more on bleak ambience than metal (despite some extremely noisy sections), effectively sounding completely unique and extremely avant-garde. Tonight, he performs a long-form violin and electric guitar duet which was originally composed for an August 2005 premiere at John Zorn’s downtown NYC art space, The Stone. “60 Metonymies” draws from the influence of Feldman, Messiaen, and Tibet, and features inimitable Kayo Dot violinist Mia Matsumiya.
Flittermice of Eld is an ensemble made up of electric
guitar, electric bass, and live electronics. Their
music is a scathing blend of modern composition, free
improvisation, noise and raw black metal. Intricate,
virtuosic composed parts occur in tandem with
improvised electronics to create a music of chaotic
yet controlled savagery.
Moth
moth is a duo consisting of sam hillmer (zs/b-keepers)
and ben gerstein (matt maneri/tony malaby) playing
saxophone and trombone respectively... moth offer
acoustic drone/noise imporovisations that engage free
jazz, euro avant, and field recordings from hither and
thither equally... performances are explosive and
short and always happen off the stage in the middle of
everything where ever it is whenever it is...
